... For truly detailed maps nothing compares to Slingsby Maps of course -
they're simply brilliant and totally in a league of their own.

Cederberg

1st Edition hiking maps: two-map set, scale 1:40 000 [2.5cm = 1km]

Hike the Cederberg
Sample of the map-in-progress

We're proud to announce that our brand new two-map set, HIKE THE CEDERBERG, is in production and will hit the shelves during 2013.

If you would like to be notified of the publication and launch of the maps as soon as we have firm dates, please click here and send us the email message that opens. Nothing else is required.

There are two double-sided maps in the set, covering the entire Cederberg Wilderness and extending north to Wolfdrif and south to Mount Ceder. Both maps are printed on Duraflex waterproof material and are packaged together in a folding slipcase. The plastic slipcase can also be used to display two panels of either map for use in the field.

The maps will not be available separately.

Our aim has been to produce truly definitive maps of the Cederberg. More than sixty hikers, mountaineers, conservationists and locals have contributed their special knowledge to the project, which is supported by CapeNature. Every single public footpath has been researched on foot, and the maps include distances and approximate times between path junctions, as well as GPS coordinates, altitudes, etc etc. Caves, perennial water, pools, dramatic rock formations and sites of historical importance are shown, but caves that have rock art are not shown except in supervised situations such as Sevilla.

The famous Cederberg shalebands, dense vegetation, cedar plantations, prominent rock screes and rockfalls, etc etc are all featured on the maps. Places to stay from which your hikes might be launched are shown with their telephone numbers.

The project has already been in progress for some time - but sorry! - I've become a bit of a perfectionist and the biggest delay has been in correcting the contour info, as well as simply ensuring that the map info is as correct and complete as possible. New inputs are still welcome, and if you'd like to contribute or simply keep tabs on our progress visit our blog at http://cederbergmap.blogspot.com
